The perfect ending to a perfect meal — our Gulab Jamun is one of Medicine Hat's most-loved Indian desserts. Soft, melt-in-your-mouth dumplings made from milk solids, deep-fried to golden perfection, and soaked in a warm rose-scented sugar syrup. Mentioned by name in our most praised guest reviews.
Gulab Jamun is the undisputed king of Indian desserts — a dish that has brought smiles to dining tables across the subcontinent for centuries. The name comes from the Persian and Hindi words for rose (gulab) and berry (jamun), a nod to the rose water-infused syrup and the berry-sized dumplings that soak within it. At Chef's Indian Kitchen, our Gulab Jamun is made fresh using the traditional khoya (reduced milk solid) method.
Each dumpling is gently kneaded, carefully rolled, and deep-fried on low heat until they develop a smooth, golden exterior. They are then immediately immersed in warm sugar syrup infused with cardamom, rose water, and a touch of saffron — allowing them to absorb the syrup fully and become irresistibly soft and fragrant all the way through. Served warm, they are the ideal conclusion to any Indian dining experience — or a decadent treat on their own.
